SOCi Goes Green, Beautifies Local Communities For
Quarterly Day of Donation and Advocacy

SAN DIEGOSept. 2, 2022— SOCi, the marketing platform for multi-location brands, and its employees recently celebrated its quarterly Day of Donation and Advocacy through SOCi Goes Green, a week-long event dedicated to making Earth a brighter, greener, and cleaner planet.

From August 1-5, SOCi employees participated in a Virtual Clean Up where they were encouraged to head outside and pick up litter within their local neighborhoods throughout the week. For each photo that was shared highlighting a clean-up experience, SOCi donated $25 each to I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) and the Green Corn Project in Austin, Texas, the company’s partnering organizations for the initiative, totaling $12,100.

On August 2, San Diego-based employees were tasked with helping collect and dispose of trash from a local beach with ILACSD. The team successfully removed 37 bags of trash and 15 buckets of recycling from the area, totaling 363 pounds of litter and debris. In addition, 1,024 cigarette butts were collected. After combining this with virtual cleanups that the SOCi team participated in, the total impact came to 1,116.25 pounds of litter collected.

“Our organization’s vision is a zero waste, litter-free, and environmentally engaged San Diego region,” said Cat Flynn, community programs coordinator for I Love A Clean San Diego. “The SOCi team was enthusiastic about making a difference and without a doubt made the beach a cleaner and greener place that day.”

On August 4, 16 Austin, Texas-based employees worked for two and a half hours, saving The Green Corn Project 40 hours of work at a local school located in an underserved community. Volunteers converted and beautified the courtyard to a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) space, as well as prepared the school’s farm with garden beds, fruit trees, a chicken coop, a greenhouse, and animal pens.

“We were thrilled to partner with the SOCi team to help make the return to school more beautiful for Perez Elementary students,” said Brooke Letterle, board president for The Green Corn Project. “Our mission is to help people with limited access to high-quality, fresh vegetables grow their own organic food gardens, and SOCi certainly helped in making that a reality for this underserved community.”

SOCi also surveyed a selection of its employees on their sustainable work from home practices, as SOCi has become a fully remote workplace. The company found that 96% purchase coffee, tea, or another beverage for work using a disposable cup less than twice a week, compared to the 76% who would make this type of purchase at least once per week when working in an office. In addition, some SOCialites have worked to stay environmentally friendly by installing solar panels on their home, closely monitoring their AC usage, making lunch at home, and reducing plastic waste.
