One of Facebook’s most loved and unique feature is events. Facebook claims more than 100 million people use Facebook events everyday to discover things they can do with their friends and family.
They have created a standalone app for these users to discover new and upcoming events from 5k’s and concerts to flash mobs and grand openings. The Facebook Events app launched in the App Store on October 7 in the United States and is coming soon to Android.
“Today we’re announcing Events from Facebook, a new app we designed for event seekers who are passionate about keeping up with nearby events and finding things to do with their friends. Whether you’re looking for something to attend this weekend or just wondering what’s happening in your area, Events will help get you there.”
If you haven’t noticed, Facebook has taken many of its popular features and turned them into standalone apps, including Groups and Messenger. Having launched in 2005, Events has been one of Facebook’s oldest features. It grew in popularity in 2011 when it began its “Suggested Events” feature.
Facebook is making it easy to find things to do near you or in other cities if you’re planning a trip. The Search button explores what’s going on today, tomorrow or on the weekend.
Pick and choose through different filters like day, time and genre in case you wanted to only see concerts or shows. A moveable map view is also available to see events by location whether its in your town or other cities.
Do you have a personal calendar and a work calendar? Add Events to the mix and let Facebook combine all three of your calendars into one. Facebook has done a great job by pulling data from your iPhone’s calendar allowing you to easily keep track of all your upcoming events in one place. You can even sync calendars like Google’s to pull in other appointments.
At the end of the day it’s all about sharing events with your friends so that you can create awesome memories like seeing your favorite band live for the very first time. Your actions on the app will be visible on Facebook which allows your friends to see what you’re interested in and what events you share.
If you haven’t downloaded it, give it a try and let us know what you think!
