How to Claim Your Listing on Foursquare

More than 90% of businesses with storefronts in the United States are already listed on Foursquare. By claiming your listing on the local search and discovery service, you get the opportunity to customize how people interact with your business on the platform. You also get access to Foursquare’s business tools, like customer rewards and analytics.

To claim your listing on Foursquare as a single-location business, follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit https://foursquare.com/venue/claim and search for your business. Enter your business’ name and location, and Foursquare will pull up any existing listings that could be a match.

Step 2: If your business already has a listing, then you can claim it by validating ownership (agreeing that you are the owner or working on behalf of the owner) and agreeing to the platform’s terms of service.

If no venues are found, then follow the prompts to create an account and create a new business listing from scratch. Head directly to Step 4.

Step 3: Foursquare requires verification before giving users access to its business management tools. To complete the process, enter your telephone number and Foursquare will call for verification.

Step 4: To create a new listing, enter some basic details about your business, including the name, address, and telephone number. “Pin” the business on a map, making sure to indicate whether your business is located inside another business or inside a private residence. Every business listing should have a category and a subcategory, which you’ll be prompted to select from a dropdown menu.

Step 5: A completed business listing should include an image of the business or the business logo. As the person who is claiming the listing, it’s up to you to upload the image that best portrays your business.

Step 6: Foursquare requires that business listings be claimed by the business owner or an authorized manager. For instant management access, businesses can pay a one-time fee of $20, which expedites the verification process.

To claim multiple listings, Foursquare has a slightly different process. Business owners, and authorized managers, looking to claim between 10 and 100 listings should submit their information via this online form, making sure to include the listing URLs for all of the places they would like to claim, along with a brand page URL. Brands that want to claim more than 100 listings should consult a third party such as SOCi for support via the Foursquare API.
