  • Language: Preferred language 
  • Behavior: Often built on previous interactions with your brand or company on a platform or elsewhere online
  • Connections: Formed from relationships with other users who have engaged with your profile 

 

Income, education level, life events, work: These are established from status updates, general interests, and about me on profiles.

Your audience’s demographics will shift between platforms and campaigns. Once you’ve set up a few campaigns, you’ll be able to see how they perform amongst various demographics, giving you insight into your target audience. We’ll discuss how to account for and measure these changes later.

Campaign insights are relatively broad and depend on the goal of a social media ad or campaign. In general, they’re how your audience behaves with your unpaid or paid social media campaigns.

  • Engagements: Likes, shares, comments, mentions

For paid social media campaigns, you should still measure the above KPIs, but they often offer more insights, such as:

  • Click-through rate (CTR): The percentage of people who viewed your post and clicked on your call-to-action (CTA)
  • Cost per click (CPC): How much you paid a social media platform per individual click on your paid post
  • Conversion rate: Number of conversions from social media traffic
  • Referral traffic: Traffic to your website, app, or online store from a campaign

 

Depending on the social media platform, there can be insight overlap between organic and paid campaigns. For instance, you often see CTR for both organic and paid posts.

 

With campaign insights, you can better understand the type of content your audience prefers — informing you to produce similar content in the future. 

 

As a reminder, audience and campaign insights will affect and influence each other. For instance, if several campaigns do quite well with one age group, but fall flat with another, you might need to adjust your target audience’s age group.

  • A/B test: Run two campaigns and change only one variable, such as the caption of a post.
